Nashville 2023

It's official! We are taking down payments (through GTP) for the 2023 OVHS Choir Nashville trip! With less participants than originally quoted, the price has been raised. However, if we fill the bus that price will come back down. Please carefully read the following before clicking the link to register.
  • Payments are non-refundable.
  • The trip is open to current 8th-11th grade students and chaperones 18 and older.
  • Students, you must have a parent or guardian setup your account and make the payments as they have to agree to the Terms & Conditions.
  • Chaperones, the price is the same for everyone. Register separately. You will need to pass a background check before we leave. 
  • Down payment is $150 and due by March 17th. Remaining payments will be split between four installments over the next several months. Fundraising will be applied to final payment(s).

Fundraising

I completely understand how fundraisers can be unappealing. I take that into consideration when choosing fundraisers. Our current sale only requires that students setup their account and share the webpage with friends and family. Help raise funds toward your Nashville trip and building the choir program! Revue Show

The 2023 Revue Show, ACT II, is fast approaching! As of writing this post, it's only 19 days away! Buy your tickets in the high school main office ($5 in advance, $6 at the door). The dates for the Revue Show are March 23, 24, and 25th!

FAQ
Why is my student failing choir?
  • They haven’t turned in their work. All assignments for the week are due by the end of class on Fridays. They receive an extra 30% on singing quizzes if they turn them in on time.
How can I see what assignments my student is missing? How can I check their grades?
  • Parents can login to Powerschool (there is a link at www.orchardview.org/student-links) using their student's student number as their username and birthday for password mm/dd/yyyy. Missing work, attendance, and grades can all be seen here. Note: Just because an assignment is marked as “turned in” in Google Classroom, does not mean that it has been completed.
What is a singing quiz?
  • These are quizzes I assign up to once a week completed on Chromebooks ((or any device with internet and a microphone. They can be done at any time and attempted as many times as necessary. We work on the quiz in class and the students have all week to turn them in. If they turn them in on time, they receive an extra 30% (up to the full 100%). See below for more information on singing quizzes.

Syllabus

Fall Choir Fundraiser

Sept 20-Oct 8, 2021

We are starting our fall fundraiser today! Packets with information and detailed instructions will be sent home with students. The fundraiser is going toward choir materials and the Mackinac trip for those attending. 

Students will be making a seller page and sharing their seller id with friends and family, no need to go door to door! Here's the info:

Grading

  • Preparation and Production - Daily Classroom Work
    • Bell ringers - These are questions or solfege work that are done at the beginning of the hour every day in Google Classroom. They are submitted on the final day of the week as a participation grade (pass/fail). 
  • Formative - Assignments and Tests
    • Singing Quizzes - These can be done on MusicFirst (link in Google Classroom). They are assigned once a week and students have all week to complete the assignment. The login info is: firstlast (letters only) and the password is their full student ID number. 
  • Summative - Concert Attendance
    • Concerts are the equivalent to a final exam. If your child cannot attend a concert, please email me ASAP. An alternative assignment will be given for an exempt on the concert grade.

Fundraiser
  • Our current Goodies Factory fundraiser ends this Friday! All forms and money must be counted and turned in by class time on 10/11 (Friday).

Orchard View Choir Apparel
  • I handed out apparel order forms (shirts, sweats, decals, jackets, etc) last week. This is completely optional. It is the same apparel as the spring 2019 order. Hoping to get more people representing the OV Choirs! Those forms are due by Friday (10/11) as well. Order forms are in the choir rooms at the MS and HS. Email me with any questions.
Fall Recital
  • This is the first year the high school will be putting together a fall recital. High school choir students are encouraged to sing a solo or small group song. We hope to see you there supporting the many talented vocal students at OV!
  • When: Tue, Oct. 29 at 7pm
  • Where: HS Auditorium
  • Cost: Free
Grading
  • I have been updating participation grades daily with notes. Choir is a participation based class and daily participation in singing and activities is mandatory!
Disney
  • Below is the up-to-date itinerary. 
  • I will be sending home info this week on signing up for fast passes. I have decided to let you choose your own (easier for me, better for you).

Fundraiser

Show Choir Auditions
  • Auditions will be April 9th and 10th, 2:30-4:00 PM. Soccer players may make arrangements for April 11th or they can come for half the time on both April 9th and 10th. Auditions are open to all 9th-11th grade students.
Revue Show DVDs
  • RS19 DVDs will be available for $5 starting Friday, April 12th.
Fine Arts Festival
  • Who: Everyone is welcome, performances by various age levels.
  • What: Celebration of the Arts at Orchard View Schools

February Update

Greetings Musicians, 

I felt it necessary, due to our current weather predicaments, to write this blog post to update everyone on the upcoming trips and choir events. Please share this post with others so that everyone is caught up. Thank you.

1. Due to the crazy weather and events of the last four weeks, I have decided to cancel the scheduled Feb. 21 middle school choir concert. The music that we have ready will be re-purposed for the Spring Concert and it will allow the middle school classes to work on some much needed composition, arrangement, and creativity projects. I promise that there will be significant educational opportunities in lieu of the missed concert. The next middle school event will be the Spring Concert on May 15 (7PM). 

2. Snap - Also due to weather and unforeseen circumstances, the SNAP fundraiser was pushed back a whole month! We are scheduled to begin our SNAP RAISE fundraiser next week Wednesday. Please collect email addresses from friends and family to prepare for this fundraiser. Email addresses WILL NOT be sold or shared. 3. Cedar Point: Everything is wrapping up nicely for the Cedar Point trip. Chaperones, it is imperative that you fill-out background checks in the HS main office ASAP. Background checks from previous school years will not be sufficient. The trip is scheduled for May 25 and I will post updates as they become available to me. 

4. The HS Spring Concert date in the syllabus and MS newsletter earlier this year was incorrect. The correct date for the HS Spring Concert is Thursday, May 16th. 

5. Disney - I would very much appreciate it if all chaperones filled out a background check ASAP as well as in the fall. That way we can make necessary adjustments sooner than later. A few people asked if they can make payments after the date and I didn't realize that there was an 8% late fee if done so. I have asked (and been granted) a waive of the Feb 1st late fee. Please make all payments BEFORE the due date to avoid any penalties. Here is a reminder of the payment schedule: Payment Schedule:

Revue Show Week Info

I will be passing out this paper (hopefully) later this week. Please note that all students must be at the high school by 5:30 PM on March 20-24. There is a ton of preparation that goes into each dress rehearsal and performance. Make sure to buy your tickets in the HS office!!!

Spring Concert
  • May 16 - 7 PM
Breakfast Club
  • Starting after spring break, I will be holding optional after school rehearsals for "Breakfast Club" choir. They will perform at the end of the year and the Spring Concert. Stay tuned for more details!
Next Year
  • I am happy to announce that next year the middle school will have an Honors Choir! 7th and 8th grade choirs will be combined and 48 7th and 8th graders will be placed in Honors Choir. Placement will be based on grades from this year. Students must be in choir at OV for at least one semester before entering Honors Choir. 
  • I am confident that this opportunity will be beneficial for both choirs.

Revue Show Shirts
If you want a Revue Show shirt you MUST give me $10 by Thursday, February 15!

Middle School Choir Concert
The concert is NEXT WEEK Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 PM in the High School Auditorium. Students wear choir shirts and jeans.

Mock Rock
Mock Rock 2018 is Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 PM. All proceeds go directly to the Orchard View Education Foundation. See Mr. Saniga to sign-up!

NYC Trip
All payments must be turned in by Thursday, March 8!
